We did have a very nice Christmas, I enjoyed the time with the older kids last night talking about Christmas memories. I loved this morning watching the little boys excitement over what Santa left, and the family time and food, and gathering with both sides of the family to celebrate.

I always have this vision of the “perfect” season. In my dreams the hubby and I joyfully shop together and eat dinner out. We watch Christmas movies and the old kids shows. We enjoy eggnog by the twinkling lights with Christmas music playing. We make hot chocolate and ride around looking at the lights. We play games together, and make cookies and enjoy the family.

If I didn’t have dreams or expectations, I don’t think I would feel so “off!”

I am looking forward to a fresh new year, fresh new beginnings, and hopefully finding my way back to feeling “ok” again. Letting go of expectations and dreams and taking things one day at a time.

I’m dreaming of a quiet night, tree lights twinkling, the family all cuddled up and watching a move and snacking on homemade treats. Doesn’t it just warm your heart. Such a perfect family moment.

Time for Plan B

I got a call from Knothead saying he had hurt his thumb and I might want to come get him, his friend said that his thumb was awesome. When a teenage boy tells you an injury is awesome, it’s bad.

I met Mr. Goofy at the ER where we they were pretty prompt in taking him back. He had dislocated his thumb and had a small break. They tried to manipulate it back but it hurt and he was screaming. It was very upsetting to me and painful for him. They decided to wait a few hours because he had eaten lunch and sedate him around 10 pm.

Around 10 they come in with the medicine and sedated him. They allowed us to stay in the room. When the Dr. touched his thumb he started trying to get up. It took several people, and several more hits of the pain med before he was out. He was strong and I am sore today from trying to hold his legs down. After some work and sweat the Dr. finally got his thumb back in place and bandaged it up.

Then Knothead woke up and said “my thumbkin hurts” he was so funny! He looked at me and said “oooo I see two Mrs. Goofys, hey will you scratch my nosey!”. He was singing a song about being a helluva engineer and he would sing the helluva engineer part very loud.

The nurse and I had a bit of fun telling him the hung him from the ceiling and dropped him by his thumb to pop it back into place. His expressions and reactions to that were priceless. After a stressful evening it was nice to lighten it up!

They released him and asked if he could walk out and he got up and put his arm around me and we made our way through the waiting room full of people where he says very loudly “Oh Look at all the beautiful people”.

I shouldn’t make plans because it seems plan b is the norm. I make plans and God laughs at my plans. Thankfully God allows me to see the humor too!

SO on to plan B. We loaded up in my car and headed to town to pick up Mema, got her and set off for the mall. Boogie was fine for a little while but he soon had enough of shopping. Shelly Bean ended up riding him around the parking lot while I helped Mema finish her shopping. We finally got out of the mall and headed for lunch and then took off for Wal-Mart. Boogie was fine for a little while and then he was done. Shelly Bean took him to the car. I was trying to get Mema checked out and Shelly Bean sent me a text that Boogie was making a present in his diaper. I had the wipes in my purse and didn’t realize it.

I finally got Mema headed in the direction of the car and all of a sudden I hear a car alarm going off. I look up and yes it was mine. Shelly Bean is locked in the car the lights are flashing and the horn is blowing and she is in the back set with Boogie. She tries to unlock the car but the car won’t unlock. I’m yelling through the window for her to put the key in the ignition, she has to climb over the seat and get the alarm turned off.

I think whew I’m glad that’s over and then I open the door and OH MY the present in the diaper was raising quite a stank. We get in and then I realized I had the wipes in my purse, whoops. Shelly Bean starts to change the diaper and quickly realizes that this is no ordinary diaper it is a blowout. It’s all over him and on his clothes. Mema is one to panic so she grabs the diaper trying to help and then she says “I’ve got it on my finger! I’ve got it on my finger!” The baby is naked, Mema has poo on her finger. Shelly Bean gets the baby cleaned up Mema gets the poo off her finger, I tie the diaper up and go throw it away, get back in the car and turn the key and NOTHING! The car won’t start!

I dig the manual out and start trying to find out how to start the car after the alarm goes off, Shelly Bean is calling Mr. Goofy. We lock and unlock the doors, we mess with the trunk latch, we make sure the car is in gear. Shelly Bean is googling for solutions on her phone. Mr. Goofy calls us back and they decide to try getting out of the car and locking and unlocking the car from the outside with the key and waiting a few minutes and finally it works. We take Mema home and head back to the house, exhausted and in need of “a nerve pill” as Mema calls it.

I think we have to laugh when we go to plan B and then plan B turns into an “I Love Lucy” moment. This will be a shopping trip that we will always remember.

That meant we had to “kick it in high gear” and get things ready here. I emptied out our office/craft room, took loads of stuff to Goodwill and crammed all my “toys” into the foyer closet. The menfolk laid new laminate floors down in the foyer, family room and 2 of the bedrooms. We moved Tae Tae out of the big garage room back into the old office, moved the dining room table into the kitchen to use the dining room as a playroom.

The Tator Tots painted the garage room and moved in. There are 8 people and 8 furry creatures living under one roof. That’s 16 hungry mouths to feed every day! The Tator Tots keep the house clean and my Son in Love has a gift for organizing things and he has put it to use here.

It’s been a crazy few months but we are adjusting and getting settled, throw a little Christmas prep and lots of birthdays in there and you have one exhausted, tired, worn out Mrs. Goofy!

Being the good daughter I did as she asked and while there she asked me if I wanted to bring her the fruit by that I had bought for the fruitcake so she could cut it up right. I told her I thought I could handle it. She gave me “the look” then I got the lecture about starting the fruitcake in a cold oven and not opening the oven door for anything until the next morning and that I wouldn’t be able to use my oven to cook dinner that night. If you haven’t read the fruitcake post check it out here. It is true and funny and the fruitcake is good.

I’ve got to go to the store and buy some toilet paper shh don’t tell Mr. Goofy!

place a chunk of sweet potato in each crescent roll and roll up and place in a casserole dish – repeat of course, till all rolls are filled and placed in dish; then mix the next four ingredients and pour over rolls, and bake for about 22-25 minutes at 350 degrees.

These were wonderful!

I am faced with choices in the midst of changes.

I panic that things are not getting done fast enough.

I have to trust that God’s timing is perfect and relax.

I have to make a choice to trust.

Every day, one day at a time.

Simply trust God.
